Putlocker does actually not exist anymore as it was shut down by the authorities but there are several dozen clone sites out there that continue Putlocker’s legacy. Unfortunately it is not entirely safe and secure to use most of these sites for the reasons described above.
Putlocker was an online streaming service such as Hulu or Netflix which was offered for free and contained illegal and copyrighted material. Usage of the website was in most jurisdictions against the law.
You were able to stream movies and TV shows on Putlocker much like on Netflix, only that it had a much larger content library as it contained a lot of pirated movies and TV shows.
Putlocker was not legal in most western countries, such as the US, Canada, the UK and Europe. As it contained pirated content, the distribution and viewing of such content violated the laws of many countries and people could have gotten into legal trouble for using the website.
This is the case with the various Putlocker closes too. There are many such clones on the internet that have essentially copied the style of the defunct Putlocker website and continue it’s legacy. If you are located in a country where streaming copyrighted content is illegal, then it’s not legal to use these Putlocker clone websites either.
Putlocker was a free website and it’s revenue was generated by heavy and aggressive advertising through pop-ups and flashy banners. Because the website hosted illegal content, many legitimate companies refused to advertise on Putlocker and as such the site was forced to accept the ads of many malicious and fraudulent sites.
Most ads on Putlocker were for (mostly illegal) online gambling, shady pharmaceutical products and erotic content. Some ads even included malware too. It was not recommended to click on any ads on Putlocker as the majority of them were either shady or even malicious.
The site itself was harmless but without an ad blocker it was almost impossible to navigate around the Manny annoying and harmful ads. And as said, a lot of those ads contained malware so using Putlocker could harm your computer without using a strong ad-blocker.
You should always use an ad-blocker if you visit any of the many Putlocker clone sites. A good adblocker can block the majority of these ads. Unfortunately some ads like that will always fall through the cracks sometimes, so not even an adblocker can 100% solve this problem.
There are many sites out there now that have copied the now defunct Putlocker and offer the same kind of services. Unfortunately almost all of them are even worse than the original. Most were created intentionally to spread malware and viruses that can harm your computer.
While the original site was not unsafe to use, many of these new clone sites are malicious and unsafe. I don not recommend anyone to use any of these clone sites. The original Putlocker site is offline and many of the new clones are too dangerous to use.
Putlocker is simply gone and as such people should move on and find alternatives to use.
Also, the new clone websites are also illegal like the original. So beside catching a computer virus you could also get into legal trouble if you use any of these websites.
Honestly, legal streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu are not that expensive and they are 100% legit so I personally don’t see the reason why anyone would want to use such dangerous and illegal sites such as Putlocker.
If you still want to access any of the Putlocker clones without being detected then that’s possible. Again, I don’t recommend using any of these sites to stream movies and TV shows as that’s not legal in many countries.
First, you will need a strong adblocker. You can either use Adblockplus or uBlock to block all the annoying and even malicious ads on the Putlocker clone websites.
Second, you will need a VPN with strong encryption such as NordVPN so that you can hide your real location as well as encrypt all your web traffic. If you use a VPN then no one will be able to know your real location even if they intercept your traffic.
Also, with a VPN with strong encryption like NordVPN, no one will be able to detect that you are visiting Putlocker and using any of the services on the site. All your traffic will be completely encrypted and without physical access to your device no one will be able to see what you do on the web. Not even your ISP!
So, be on the same side and if you for any reason will have to visit a Putlocker site then always use an adblocker as well as a premium VPN service. Never ever use Putlocker or any clone sites without these.
