Find the Cheapest VPNs for Less than $5 Per Month

HOW TO Updated on: 8 October 2018

Did you know you can get a premium VPN service for as cheap as the price of a cup of coffee?

I have created this guide in order to show you which are the cheapest VPN services available on the web.

BUT a huge aspect of this research was to filter out the low-quality services from the truly good and amazing ones.

The VPN providers you will see below are the some of the cheapest available but are also some of the best.

1. NordVPN

NordVPN is the cheapest VPN on the web.

1 Month subscription costs $11.95 per month.

6 Months pre-paid costs $9 per month.

1 Year pre-paid costs $6.99 per month.

Special Offer: $3.99 per month for a Two Year subscription.

I will have to tell you that the $3.99 price is not available if you go to the NordVPN website directly (you can check this for yourself).

You will only get the $3.99 deal if you follow one of the links here on this webpage.

Go to NordVPN now and get 2 Years Premium VPN for just $3.99 per month.

NordVPN Stats:

Servers: 4,800+
Server locations: 62
Number of simultaneous devices: 6
Works on Netflix: Yes.
Works for Torrenting: Yes.
Logs policy: Zero-logging.

Pros:

  • Up to 450 Mbps download speed
  • Works on Netflix and other streaming sites
  • Cheapest VPN for just $3.99 per month
  • 30-days money back guarantee

Cons:

  • Not much.

NordVPN is one of the fastest VPN apps today. It has over 4,800 individual severs and tens of thousands of IP addresses.

This means that it will always work on Netflix and other streaming sites, as Netflix can’t ban all IPs (and new IPs are added all the time).

If you have a very fast internet connection at home then you can experience download speeds as fast as 450 Mbps with NordVPN.

NordVPN has a true zero-logs policy, meaning it will not keep any user data of any kind.

2. CyberGhost

IPVanish Preview

NordVPN is another cheap premium VPN.

1 Month subscription costs $11.99 per month.

1 Year pre-paid costs $4.99 per month.

2 Year pre-paid costs $3.79 per month.

Special Offer: $2.75 per month for a Three Year subscription.

Go to CyberGhost now and get 3 Years Premium VPN for just $2.75 per month.

CyberGhost Stats:

Servers: 2,200
Server locations: 58
Number of simultaneous devices: 5
Works on Netflix: Yes.
Works for Torrenting: Yes.
Logs policy: Zero-logging.

Pros:

  • One of the cheapest VPNs with just $2.75 per month
  • Is based on Romania (privacy friendly)
  • 30-days money back guarantee

Cons:

  • Some servers can be slow.
  • Interface is not as pretty as NordVPN

CyberGhost is a Romanian premium VPN you can get for as cheap as $2.75 per month.

It’s great to unblock content such as Netflix and other streaming sites. It’s also amazing for privacy because it’s located in Romania (no government tracking) and has a zero-logs policy.

As of now it’s one of the cheapest VPNs available. It’s nevertheless a premium VPN service.

Get CyberGhost as as cheap as $2.75 per month.

3. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN is a premium VPN packed with many premium features.

1 Month subscription costs $12.95 per month.

6 Months pre-paid costs $9.99 per month.

15 Months pre-paid costs $6.67 per month.

ExpressVPN is a bit more expensive than the previous two VPNs but the reason I included it here is because of the many advanced premium features it has, such as kill-switch and split-tunneling.

Go to ExpressVPN now and get 15 Month Premium VPN for just $6.67 per month.

ExpressVPN Stats:

Servers: 2,000+
Server locations: 148
Number of simultaneous devices: 3
Works on Netflix: Yes.
Works for Torrenting: Yes.
Logs policy: Zero-logging.

Pros:

  • Many advanced features like kill-switch
  • Fastest VPN speeds (after NordVPN)
  • Does not keep logs
  • 30-days money back guarantee

Cons:

  • Is more expensive than others

ExpressVPN can be bought for as cheap as $6.67 per month, which honestly isn’t that much but it’s s still more expensive than others.

The reason I have included it here is because it has extremely fast servers and many advanced features such as the kill-switch and split-tunneling.

If you need these features then ExpressVPN is perfect for you. Otherwise I’d choose NordVPN, as it’s half the price of ExpressVPN.

4. What is the best cheap VPN of them all?

I’d personally go with NordVPN. It’s just $3.99 per month and it has all the advanced features as any other premium VPN.

It’s also one of the fastest VPNs with speeds up to even 450 Mbps.

I can personally attest to the fact that it does work with Netflix, as it’s NordVPN I myself also use to watch Netflix with different IP addresses.

CyberGhost is great too and it’s even cheaper with just $2.75. If it’s only the price you are after then go with CyberGhost.

I personally prefer NordVPN because I like how the application and desktop platform works and it’s much faster than CyberGhost (it’s better for streaming). I also never has any Netflix issues with NordVPN.

I have not included other VPNs into this ranking (like some other sites do) because honestly I don’t think any other VPN comes close to the performance of these three.

Other sites are recommending anything from 5 to 10 VPNs in their comparison tables but I considered it makes no sense to recommend VPN providers that I personally would never use.

These three are also three of the cheapest VPNs on the internet. You will never get any premium VPN for less than $3.99 or $2.75 per month.

Even some low-quality VPNs charge more than this.

As I said, I personally use NordVPN every day and this is what I will recommend. You can nevertheless chose either CyberGhost or ExpressVPN too, as both do a great job. It just all comes down to what you are looking for.

5. Why shouldn’t I use a free VPN instead?

But why even pay $2.75 per month for a VPN if you can get it for free, right?

Wrong.

You should never use a free VPN.

A free VPN will almost always steal your data. This is how they make money.

A VPN is not more than a collection of servers to which you will be redirecting your traffic before it reaches the destination sites.

If you use a free VPN then those services will intercept all your data and sell it (or even hack you). They have to make money somehow, right? Why would a company run expensive servers if they don’t make any money?

In a recent study almost all free VPNs were found to keep logs of user data.

A free VPN is also very slow. A free VPN will never have the required funding to run high-speed servers, so you can say goodbye to HD streaming with such a service.

Netflix does not work with a free VPN. Netflix does not like VPNs and will ban IP addresses belonging to a VPN. A free VPN does not have the money and manpower to constantly add new IP addresses.

There is no advantage at all for using a free VPN.

The difference between a free VPN and a cheap VPN is astronomical. For just $2.75 per month you can get a VPN that offers high-speeds, works on Netflix and never keeps any logs of what you do on the internet.

$2.75 is cheaper than a cup of coffee in most places. It’s not worth a risk using a free VPN, which will keep logs of your data and sell it to marketing companies (or worse, hackers – in case they aren’t the hackers themselves).

This reminds me of the story of Hola VPN, a free VPN that was found to run botnets on users’ computers. This means that hackers and even criminals were using individual users’ computers to conduct their illegal activities.

Just $2.75 is the price to avoid all of this.

6. Frequently asked questions

Is a cheap VPN fast?

Yes, a cheap VPN can be very fast. NordVPN can reach download speeds of up to 450 Mbps, which is one of the fastest speeds I have measured with a VPN.

There is no speed difference between a cheap VPN service such as NordVPN and an expensive one (in fact, NordVPN is #1 when it comes to speed).

Are cheap VPNs safe?

Some of the safest VPNs available are all very cheap. NordVPN has a zero-logging policy and only costs $3.99 per month. It’s widely regarded as one of the most secure VPNs.

Are budget VPNs worth it?

It’s the other way around – expensive VPNs are not worth it!

Some of the cheapest VPNs available – NordVPN, CyberGhost and ExpressVPN – offer the best services on the market today when it comes to speed, security and capability to unblock sites.

It makes no sense to buy more expensive VPN services because you will be getting the same – and often inferior – services.

Like I said, I personally use NordVPN for everything from unblocking to Netflix and work. It’s a cheap VPN even professionals can use.
